Ditch your cabin fever and catch roller derby fever!
Join us for a fun, unique way to spend a winter afternoon with your family, your friends, your company as a team building exercise, or out on your own just trying something new. Derby for a Day gets you out of the house, exercising your body, and socializing...all for a good cause. Our collaborator, the Chicago Outfit roller derby team, will be on hand during the event to encourage skaters young and old, as well as lead all skating activities.
Proceeds from this event will benefit Seven Generations Ahead's efforts to build healthy, sustainable communities. PLUS...there is an option for pledge sharing with an additional wellness-based, non-profit organization of your team's choice! Read on to learn more...
The event will feature:
--Continual roller skating by participants for 1.5 hours with one break (there is no "lap" requirement)
--Skills and drills coaching
--Roller Derby Demo bout by the Chicago Outfit roller derby team
--Wacky Awards (Best Dressed Individuals; Best dressed Teams; Best Derby Nicknames)
--Prizes for highest Team and Individual pledge-getters
--Healthy food will be served throughout the event
A Note about Safety: While this event will expose participants to the world of roller derby, there will be no derby contact moves (pushing, shoving or bumping) allowed on the rink by participants while skating. Rink referees will be present at all times.
Participation Guidelines
--All skaters must be part of a team (a team can be assigned if needed) Register Your Team here.
--The maximum number of participants per team is 20ppl (you can always divide into two teams if needed)
--Each skater solicits flat fee pledges from friends, family and colleagues for skating the 1.5 hours (with one break) in their wave (Wave 1 is Family/Kids Skate, 3:30pm - 5:30pm; Wave 2 is Adult/Corporate Challenge Skate, 5:30pm - 7:30pm)
--The minimum pledge requirement per team is the equivalent of $50 per team member. (Example: If there are 7 team members, the team as a whole needs to raise $350 in pledges to participate. Some team members may raise more than $50, and some may raise less.)
